The Overflow Of The Heart!
Luke
6:43-45
"The good man brings good things out
of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things
out of the evil stored up in his heart. For
out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.”
Q:
What do you find yourself talking about the most?
Sports, Cars, Money, Clothes, Your Appearance, Boys, Girls?
Q: How many of
you have ever been in love?
Do you remember what it was like at first?
All you could do was talk about them to everybody, everywhere you
went. Right?
Where is your heart #1?
Matthew
22:37-38
"'Love the Lord your God with all your
heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first
and greatest commandment.”
-
Jesus said we were to LOVE God with everything in us.
-
If we love God that much we will talk about Him!
If we are not
talking about Jesus maybe we are not really in love with Him!?
Are You Talking About Jesus?
How To Fall In Love With Jesus
(Spend time with Him!!)
1. Read the Bible every day
Psalm
1:1-3
"Blessed is the man who does not walk
in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the
seat of mockers. But his delight is in the
law of the LORD, and on
his law he meditates day and night. He is
like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers."
Read one chapter in the New Testament in the morning (Begin
at Genesis 1:1).
Read one chapter in the Old Testament in the evening (Begin
at Matthew 1:1).
The parts of the chapter that really stand out to you are often the
Lord speaking directly to you.
-
Keep track of those verses in a
journal!
Q:
Do you find yourself saying “I wish I could but I’m just too busy?”
If you and your boyfriend or girlfriend were separated and they
sent you a love letter would you be too busy to read it?
The Bible is our love letter from God!
2. Pray every day
2
Chronicles 13:10-11
"As for us, the LORD is our God, and
we have not forsaken him. The priests who serve the LORD are sons of Aaron,
and the Levites assist them. Every morning
and evening they present burnt offerings and
fragrant incense to the LORD. They set out the bread on the ceremonially
clean table and light the lamps on the gold lampstand every evening. We
are observing the requirements of the LORD our God."
In the Old Testament Scriptures incense often
was a type or symbol of prayer. Though we are not under the ceremonial
requirements of the Old Testament, the principle of praying morning and
evening is still applicable in our relationship with the Lord!
-
Pray 15 minutes every morning.
-
Pray 15 minutes every evening.
Q: Do you find yourself
saying “I wish I could but I’m just too busy?”
Q: Do you say “Oh,
I do pray! I pray while I wash dishes or mow the lawn!”
How would you feel if your boyfriend or girlfriend was always
too busy to spend time with you? Or only spent a few minutes with you while
they were doing something else?
Q: How many of
you like to hear your boyfriend or girlfriend tell you they love you?
Do you ever tell Jesus you love Him in your private
prayer times?
Where is your heart #2?
Matthew
22:39-40
“And the second is like it: 'Love your
neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Have you received Jesus into your heart and had your sins forgiven?
Are you on your way to heaven?
Are you thankful you’re saved and on your way to heaven?
Jesus said we were to love
our neighbor as we love ourselves.
Do you love your neighbor enough to want him or her to go to heaven
with you?
If we cherish our salvation we should want the same thing for them?
How
To Love Your Neighbor
-
Make a prayer list with the names of 5 unsaved people you know.
Begin praying for them everyday. Pray whatever comes to your mind
- no matter how strange it may sound.
